IS Executes Ten People in Syria for Being Gay

IS have supposedly killed 10 people it accused of being gay, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.  The killings were committed yesterday, Monday, in northern Syria. The executions included the murder of 9 adults and one boy whom IS accused of being involved in homosexuality.

The Observatory suggested that the killings were conducted in public and that filming of the events were prohibited. Previously, the group has thrown people off buildings who have been accused of being gay and with the events being filmed and photographed. The prohibition of filming the murders may be to reduce the global public outcry that has taken place before when pictures of IS throwing young men off the roofs of buildings were circulated on social media. The pictures also highlighted the particularly brutal nature of the group.

According to the Syrian Observatory, IS has executed more than 3,000 people, including at least 1,800 civilians, since it announced its caliphate in June 2014.
