Supporting Chaplaincy in Public Institutions
|
Chaplaincy is a service which has become associated with public sector service delivery and this document provides information on the role of chaplains in public sector institutions and outlines some of the best practice undertaken through the work of Muslim chaplains in various institutions and sectors. Chaplains are the unsung heroes providing services to people in key sectors like prisons, hospitals, further education colleges, universities and courts throughout England. Some individuals are vulnerable and need the pastoral care which is mainly their first and only point of care in such institutions. Chaplains are therefore faith leaders in their own rights and this document lists the skills and a pro-forma recruitment process for chaplains with perspectives of case studies from the work of Muslim chaplains in these sectors. We hope that this document may support building understanding of the role of chaplains and improve the support available for the work of chaplains in the public sector. Fiyaz Mughal OBE FCMI |
