Research Study:
‘A Perspective of Muslim and Sikh Relations in the United Kingdom and Causes of Tensions and Mistrust Between the Two Communities’
This research report builds on the work undertaken by Faith Matters in Corrymeela in 2008 where Faith Matters undertook the first national project looking at issues affecting Sikh and Muslim relations in England. That report is available on this site (the Cohesive Communities report) and the Adab research report significantly builds on that and looks at (1) Historical issues - the Partition of India in 1947 (2) Issues affecting community relations today between both faith communities (3) a sense of 'collective amnesia' in some of the young people from both faith communities who do not understand the rich history of co-operation and dialogue that both faith communities have had within the sub-continent and within areas of England (4) Some possible solutions to overcome the fractures in relations (5) the manipulation of community tensions by the British National Party.
This is a groundbreaking piece of work and we hope that it will inform public policy making.
