Prevent Peers Programme:

Faith leaders, elected members and officers in eight local authorities in the West Midlands were provided with support on the issue of community cohesion and Prevent. Whilst Prevent has sometimes been a contentious issue, the training was sensitively focussed and included training and support on interfaith tensions and on extremist narratives that can affect communities and the role of elected members in areas within these social agendas.

The programme helped faith leaders explore and gain a better understanding of complex and sensitive issues around Al Qaeda, Far Right narratives and interfaith tensions and the potential to radicalise individuals. The Prevent Peers programme reached out to over 170 partipants in 15 sessions and each participant received 15 hours of direct training support and e-mail and telephony based support on an ongoing basis.
